Promoting Sustainable Investments In Egypt's Food Security

Promoting Sustainable Investments In Egypt's Food Security
Egypt faces challenges such as the impact of climate change, water and land scarcity, high levels of urbanisation, increasing demand both from population and income growth and the need for healthy, nutritious food. These issues can be mitigated through the mobilization of key stakeholders and implementation of effective investment strategies.

FAO, the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation, and the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade are convening high-level policymakers, financing institutions and CEOs from leading agribusiness companies to discuss the future of agricultural investment in Egypt.

Participants ranging from private sector companies, producer associations, policy-makers, IFIs, local banks and other investors will come together on 5 December 2017 for the forum and participate in public-private discussions that will focus on:
  • ways to foster an enabling environment for sustainable agricultural investment in the country; and
  • Supporting Egypt’s agrifood systems to be more efficient and inclusive, both in terms of import supply chains and subsectors with high export potential.
The Forum will host high-level presentations and will include interactive panel sessions on selected value chains including grain, sugar, horticulture and poultry, as well as networking sessions and a wrap-up discussion.

The event will present a unique occasion to identify investment constraints and opportunities in key value chains and priority areas in Egypt.
