Milk and the Dairy products in the Mediterranean

Playing a central role in societies and economies of the region, the dairy sector has been facing many changes in recent years. The difficulties met by the different sectors of the dairy industry but also the positive initiatives that will enable, in the future, to overcome the new challenges are addressed in this issue. Placing the dairy sector at the crossroads of production, logistics, socio-economic and environmental challenges by providing global, regional and national insights, this Watch Letter 35 features a series of scientific articles providing an update on the ongoing analyses and developments of the dairy sector in the Mediterranean.

In this issue, the CIHEAM wishes to present the different milk sectors of the region, at national and local levels and with all their specificities. The difficulties met by the different sectors of the dairy industry but also the positive initiatives that will enable, in the future, to overcome the new challenges are addressed in this issue.

As always, this publication seeks to go beyond the Mediterranean framework in order to also achieve a better comprehension of the dynamics at work at global level, to observe other policies and other strategic considerations related to this sector.
